Muskrat

Family: Muridae

Size: It measures approximately 45 to 65 cm.

Longevity: It is known to be able to live ten years in captivity, but it rarely exceeds three or four years in the wild.

Habitat: It lives in ponds, in shallow bays and in swamps.

Food: Muskrat feeds on several species of aquatic plants: reeds, water lilies, sedges, etc. It can also eat mollusks and amphibians.

Did you know that the muskrat is not related to the rat? Muskrats build huts that are kind of like beaver huts, but smaller.
