Northern Shoveler

Size: About between 43cm and 50cm
Longevity: The lifespan of the Northern Shoveler is about 20 years.
Habitat: It lives in marshes and ponds.
Food: Its diet is mixed. It eats plants but also small aquatic animals such as crustaceans, molluscs and plankton that it captures in shallow water.
Did you know that the northern shoveler’s spatula shaped bill allows it to filter its food? It sucks up water from the swamp, filters out edible particles and returns water through the sides of its bill.
